War against Ukraine: Government agrees on aid package for companies

According to its own statement, the federal government has been working at full speed for weeks on aid for companies affected by the consequences of the war. Now there is a package of measures.

Companies in Germany suffering from the economic consequences of the Ukraine war receive state aid.

Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) said in the Bundestag that he would make public with Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) at noon what additional corporate aid the federal government was launching. “Doing nothing is not an option in this situation,” said Lindner. He did not give details of the aid.

A spokeswoman for Habeck said at the end of March that the federal government was working “at full speed” on an aid package for companies affected by the consequences of the war. The ministry is in close contact with the state development bank KfW about a loan program.

The EU Commission had cleared the way for companies to be granted state support more easily in order to protect them from the economic effects of the war against Ukraine.

Business associations had asked the federal government to provide targeted help. In individual cases, temporary instruments such as sureties, guarantees, loans and state investments in endangered companies should be possible, based on the model of the Economic Stabilization Fund in the Corona crisis, said Joachim Lang, the general manager of the Federation of German Industries.
