Austria paid significantly more for Russian imports

This was particularly noticeable in the case of imports from Russia, for which Austria transferred 247.5 percent more to the country, which is now at war, than in January 2021. That totaled 880 million euros, according to current data from Statistics Austria.

Expenditure on fuel and energy from Russia alone amounted to over 829 million euros in January this year (plus 280 percent). In January 2021 it was only 218.5 million euros.

The total value of imports in January was 15.29 billion euros, an increase of 32 percent compared to the same month last year. Exports increased by 21.3 percent compared to January 2021 to 13.58 billion euros. The trade balance showed a deficit of 1.71 billion euros.
