In the second month of the year, the sector’s production grew by 36% compared to the same month of 2021, favored by all subsectors except for basic inorganic and intermediate products, taking into account that the previous year there were scheduled and unscheduled plant stoppages, while with respect to January there was a 10% drop.
The CIQyP review indicated that local sales increased by 34% when compared to February 2021, as a result of the increase in volume and prices of products globally, also considering the depreciation of the dollar, with final thermoplastic products and agrochemical finishes as the most influential subsectors.
When comparing with sales in January, sales in the local market fell due to the influence of lower sales in final agrochemical products, for which the variation between January and February 2022 presented a drop of 11%, while the accumulated year reached an increase of 39% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In exports, there was a significant increase of 156% year-on-year as a result of increases in prices and volumes sold, specific exports, highlighting thermoplastic end products as the predominant subsector.
For the same reasons, the accumulated figure for the year grew by 98%, although when compared to January 2022, a 6% drop is observed due to a drop in demand.
The report also pointed out that the installed capacity of the sector during February had an average use of 55% for basic and intermediate products and 85% for petrochemical products.
During February 2022, the trade balance of the sector’s products was down 14% compared to the same month in 2021, with positive variations of 33% in imports and 66% in exports.
Thus, total sales that include the local market plus exports reached US$ 384 million, accumulating a total of US$ 813 million in the first two months of the year.
