Employment in the software sector grows and already exceeds 132,000 jobs

The data to be released by the Chamber of the Argentine Software Industry of Argentina (CESSI) marks a new increase in the number of jobs. That number jumped from 116,616 in 2020 to 132,120 in 2021, which is a 13.3% improvement. This occurred in parallel with a rise in the level of exportswhich last year reached US$2,000 million, when revenues of US$1,789 million had been recorded in the previous period.

The survey of the business entity is supported, on the one hand, with data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census, in terms of exports. On the other, with data from the National Ministry of Labor, regarding the number of jobs.

“This is great news. From 2016 to date, employment had been growing, but in percentages ranging from 3% to 7%. The 2021 leap multiplies these figures and represents more than 15,000 jobs,” he told Ámbito Sergio Candelo, president of CESSI. In that line he anticipated: “We believe that this trend will continue. Our plan is to generate 400 thousand new jobs between now and 2031with these indices it is proposed as very possible”.

According to official data, wage earners in the software industry, on average, are among the top 8% earners in the private sector. In August 2021, the salary of the companies that are part of the Chamber of the Argentine Software Industry of Argentina, averaged $167,800, when the average of the private sector registered compensation of $79,500. It is discounted that from that period to this part, the increase was even higher than inflation.

The main bottleneck that firms find today to accelerate their growth is the lack of skilled labor. As explained in the sector, last year some 20,000 jobs were left vacant due to not finding the requested profiles. Government and private agree that it is essential to increase training instances focused on these needs.

The Knowledge Economy Law, which grants tax benefits to companies, also has an instruction chapter. At the same time, the Ministry of Productive Development promotes an initiative called Argentina Program that plans to train for free those who want to approach the world of programming and also those who have previous experience.

According to official sources, more than 700,000 people signed up to participate in the initiative in the two instances that were enabled. “The majority segment is that of young people between 31 and 40 years old, so it is not only about people looking for a first job, but there are also those who aim to change jobs,” explained an official who works in the area. .

The development of the software sector and the Knowledge Economy as a whole appear today as possible solutions to the stagnation that has been perceived in the creation of registered private employment for more than a decade and the expansion of the, today limited, exportable basket that Argentina offers the world.
