Martín Guzmán arrived in Washington and on Friday he will meet with the head of the IMF

In addition to the bilateral meetings, he will meet with the Director of Operations of the World Bank, Axel Van Trotsenburg, and with the authorities of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad)and of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Prior to Friday’s meeting with the head of the IMF, The minister will participate in different meetings with representatives of the staff of the multilateral organization, with the aim of evaluating the evolution of the Argentine economy after the agreement signed between both parties.

During the week he will also participate in forums and a meeting with businessmen within the framework of the Atlantic Councilwhere he will present on the economic and energy policy of Argentina.

Regarding the evolution of the economic variables after the agreement with the IMFaffirmed that “the economic policy that has been executed has been aligned with what had been planned since the goals in the fiscal, monetary and international reserve accumulation plans have been met.”

“This is something important and of great value for stability and to be able to guarantee continuity of the economic recovery.“said the minister.”The Government expresses full compliance on the fiscal, monetary and international reserves front. The primary fiscal deficit in the first quarter was only 0.25% of gross domestic product” in line with the goals set in the program signed with the IMF, he said.

In this context, the IMF today raised growth projections for Argentina to 4% in 2022, one percentage point more than forecast last January.

The country’s estimates were released this morning, during the presentation of the World Economic Outlook, and were in charge of Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, the new chief economist of the IMF, from the University of Berkeley, who succeeded Gita Gopinath in the position .

The projections for Argentina are even higher than those issued just 10 days ago by other organizations such as the World Bank, which estimated that the country will grow 3.6% during the current period.
