The agreement with the IMF does not solve anything

Precisely, before leaving for Washington. At the Spring Assembly of the IMF, the Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán said that in the first quarter of the year the primary deficit goals were met, which he estimated at 0.25% of GDP

Marx argued in this regard that “The program with the IMF is not something that solves problems because it is presented as something that avoids a bigger problem” and that “an administration strategy is seen over time, of trying not to get worse.”

“The obligations remain aligned with the original program. There are going to be disbursements that depend on meeting the goal, but according to the IMF’s own practices, the staff has to give its view on whether the program is on track, and if it has a chance of being met, ”he warned.

The economist then said that “Even if the goals are met and if there is a negative prospective vision, it can be a reason for discussion, at least, if there is going to be disbursement or not.”

In that sense, he considered that “the basic vision is that we are going to continue managing the times here, with a very high cost of inflation that does not even solve problems of relative prices that seem to be increasing”.

On the other hand, Marx expressed his concern about the rapid change in the globalization paradigm that has prevailed in the world until now.

“We are erasing very quickly what was a guide to financial economic management, that comes very tied to political interpretations, with defensive attitudes that interrupt the previous cycle”, said the former Finance Secretary.

Marx pointed out that “it is something similar to an earthquake, there are faults that are spreading. This is reflected in very large volatility in prices or production and trade interruptions, logistical problems”.
