The conclave of the Financial Committee took place within the framework of the Spring Assembly of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) and there the differences of criteria that led to that meeting of the different countries in the face of the war were evident in Eastern Europe, which prevented a joint declaration from being drawn up.
“We have held meetings that help us to position the strategy that the Argentine Government is drawing up to produce liquefied Natural Gas. The strategy includes an articulation with national and international energy companies, and various member countries of the G20 in order to guarantee the demand for the production that Argentina has the potential to generate”, explained Guzmán.
In this sense, the Minister highlighted that “from these meetings and those that we have been holding previously, we conclude that it will be of value for the country to work on a specific bill for the development of LNG, which should be built with the support of the political forces in the National Congress so that the rules of the game for the development of this activity are perceived as more stable”.
Likewise, the minister concluded that “the assessment made by the G20 countries about the positive role played by the National Congress in the processes of restructuring the external public debt and the agreement with the IMF is almost general.” In this way, Guzmán stated that “we should follow a similar logic of State policy to promote the development of the energy sector.”
“We are solving one by one the problems of Argentina. On this occasion, having already taken key steps to solve the problems of foreign debts, the focus of the bilateral meetings became Energy and the contribution that Argentina can make to global energy and food security in a world in turmoil,” he added.
The president of the Financial Committee, Nadia Calvino, first vice president and economy minister, said that “obviously, this meeting has not been the usual. Russia’s war against Ukraine has made it impossible to reach a consensus on a statement.”
Calvino pointed out that “the finance ministers and the heads of the central banks have made an overwhelming call to stop the war, and have expressed concern about the economic impact, which goes beyond neighboring countries and has a global reach” .
After the meeting held within the framework of the IMF, Guzmán met with the Commissioner of the European Union, Paolo Gentiloni, with whom he advanced on the opportunities to deepen trade and investment ties between Argentina and the European Union, the Palace reported tonight. of Treasury.
Finally, the minister met with the president of the Open Society Foundation, Mark Malloch Brown, to analyze the situation of the global economy and the need to reform the international financial architecture for economic stability.
