According to the authorities, the color mixture that leaked out in the paint shop of US electric car manufacturer Tesla in Grünheide near Berlin almost two weeks ago is slightly hazardous to water.
“A viscous color mixture that is used in the electrocoating process leaked out. According to the lower water authority, it is assigned to water hazard class 1,” the Brandenburg district of Oder-Spree told the German Press Agency. This class includes, for example, certain alkalis or acids. According to class 2, diesel is hazardous to water. Waste oil is highly hazardous to water according to class 3.
15,000 liters of treatment bath leaked
According to the Brandenburg State Environment Agency, on April 11, 15,000 liters of treatment bath leaked out of the electrocoating at Tesla. The authority classifies this as an operational disruption, not as an accident. A disposal company pumped out the liquid that had been collected in a tub. On April 12th, two to three liters ran onto the access road during loading. The liquid was absorbed with a binding agent. The district repeated the assessment that soil and groundwater were not polluted. In contrast to the classification according to water law, the paint is not classified as a hazardous substance according to the State Environment Agency – therefore it is not an accident.
