Agriculture estimates that wheat production for the current campaign will grow 25.6%, with 22.1 million tons

The decrease in soybean and wheat responds to the lack of rain in the last months of last year and the first part of 2022 and to the frosts recorded in March, which greatly affected the yield of both crops. The monthly report of “Agricultural Estimates” also reflected that barley will show a growth of 30% and will reach 5,200,000 tons.

Sunflower production will rise 3.9% to 3,600,000 tons; peanuts will increase 2.4% and will be above 1,300,000 tons; and cotton will have a rise of 4.8%, with a projection of 1,100,000 tons.

In the opposite direction, rice will present a decline of 14.3% compared to the previous campaign, at 1.2 million tons; and grain sorghum will decline 9.1% and will record a production of 3 million tons.

The report of the Ministry of Agriculture – when arguing the causes of the cut in the yield of soybeans – said that “the drought that occurred in the first half of January” caused inconveniences in the development of the oilseed of first occupation.

In February and March there was a significant recovery in the plantations from an improvement in the water flow. In the case of second-class soybeans, “the situation is different, reporting delays in the planting date due to not having adequate moisture; in those already planted, a delay in the growth rate, causing a lower vegetative volume.”

Lastly, they pointed out that the crops were also affected by the frosts at the end of March. Regarding corn, they explained that “the little or no rains in the first days of January mainly affected early corn that was in the critical stage of flowering, reducing its yields and allocating a larger area as forage reserve.”

As a consequence of climatic difficulties, “the crop will not reach the yield potential expected at the beginning of the campaign”.
