So it was that the field research used prices of reference in pizzerias of 11 neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, such as Boedo, Caballito, Devoto, Recoleta, San Nicolás, Palermo, Belgrano, Saavedra, Coghlan, Villa Urquiza and Núñez. There he surveyed 80 different businesses. It was found that there are jumps and differences in abysmal prices, as in the Saavedra neighborhood, where the gap between the cheapest pizza and the most expensive analyzed exceeds 200% between two locations, with just ten blocks apart.

“A mozzarella pizza is worth the same as a month of electricity service for a typical family house in Saavedra and you need to be able to buy at least 30 pizzas per month to avoid being homeless, something is clearly not right,” explained Daniel Amoroso on the conclusions of the work, which was carried out between April 4 and 8, 2022, with a telephone survey.

The average price of a large 8-slice mozzarella pizza among the 80 businesses consulted is $1,085.75 pesos, that is, 143% more than the value obtained in July 2020, where it was $445.

Where to buy the cheapest and most expensive pizza

This report revealed that the main affected in this regard are the residents of the Coghlan neighborhood, who buy pizza for $2,200. On the contrary, in Caballito you can get the cheapest one, at $470.

According to the former Buenos Aires legislator, the price escalation is due to the increase in costs of the entire value chain of this product and is a true reflection of the existing “price distortion”. In addition to revealing the price of mozzarella pizza, the study inquired about the value of two other mass consumption products such as bills and the bread.

Bread and bills victims of inflation

On the one hand, the dozen invoices showed that in CABA the average price is around $726.48. In these two items there are marked differences according to areas, while in Coghlan it exceeds $1,000, in Boedo it can be found for $500.

Meanwhile, the average price of a kilo of bread was $352.44. In almost all the surveyed neighborhoods, a kilo of bread ranges between 250 and 400 pesos, except in neighborhoods such as Belgrano and Núñez, where it can reach up to $590 and $648, respectively.
