As part of the event organized by Argentina, Marcó del Pont assumed the presidency of the CIAT Board of Directors with the aim of promoting the global debate on the exchange of information as a tool to combat international tax evasion and avoidance.
During his speech, he maintained that the information received automatically from the financial accounts of Argentines around the world It allowed the tax agency to promote the changes introduced in the tax on Personal Assets and the collection of the Solidarity and Extraordinary Contribution.
In this sense, the AFIP supported the proposals that contemplate the implementation of global reports of crypto assets and modifications to the OECD’s automatic information exchange mechanism to include electronic money, digital currencies and investments in crypto assets.
“Having information about the true owners of the companies is strategic to combat tax evasion”, said Marcó del Pont when referring to the creation of the Registry of Final Beneficiaries instrumented by the AFIP in 2020.
The official also highlighted the relevance of having tools to deal with possible abuses by large multinationals in international operations with companies of the same group.
“The tax administrations must face the challenges presented by financial globalization jointly, jointly, and emphasizing and deepening all the mechanisms for exchanging information,” said Marcó del Pont at the end of his speech.
In 2023, the CIAT General Assembly, which brings together 42 countries from four continents, will be held in Uruguay.
