Metallurgical industry costs increased almost 16% in the first quarter

Compared to the first quarter of 2021, the increase was 53.7%, added the business entity.

In its report, the industrial chamber pointed out that energy continues to lead the increases within total costs, with a 36.8% increase in the monomic price in the January-March period surveyed by the Administrative Company of the Wholesale Electricity Market (Cammesa).

“The cost of energy continues to lead the increases within the metallurgical cost structure of the last five years,” he noted.

On the other hand, basic ferrous inputs showed an increase of 11.1%, non-ferrous ones registered an increase of 14.1% and logistics services showed an increase of 10% during the first quarter of the year, driven by the rise in fuel price.

“In the case of ferrous inputs, there have been increases in dollars during the first quarter that in some cases exceed 12%,” Adimra pointed out.

Among the main metallurgical items, the highest cost increases occurred in the Foundry sector (22.8%), given the intensive use of Energy.

On the contrary, the smallest increases were registered in the sectors of Agricultural machinery (14.9%) and Bodyworks and trailers (14.3%) due to the fact that their cost structure is less intensive in Energy, the association explained.
