In his analysis of the performance of the sector, Martin Galdeano, president of the association pointed out that “Production in April continued to be affected by foreign trade operations, global logistics problems and the shortage of semiconductors”.
In the accumulated of the first quarter, the sector reached 148,884 units produced (cars and utility vehicles), which marked an improvement of 25.5% compared to the 118,592 units that were produced in the same period of the previous year.
For its part, ADEFA reported that the sector exported 27,431 vehiclesthat is, he recorded a increase of 11.4% compared to the previous month, and grew 73.1% compared to the volume that was recorded in April 2021.
In this sense, Galdeano indicated that “Exports maintain a great dynamic, mainly due to the increase in demand in markets such as Central America, Brazil and Ecuador, supported by the terminals’ own plans to gain presence in new destinations.”
Between January and April, 81,376 vehicles were exported, that is, an advance of 24.8% was registered in comparison with the same period last year when 65,221 units were sent to various markets.
In wholesale sales, meanwhile, the sector sold to the dealer network 30,861 units in April, 8.8% less than the previous month, and 3.3% above the volumes of the same month of the previous year.
In this way, the accumulated figure for the first four months shows that wholesale sales (dealers) reached 110,267 units, that is, 5.1% less compared to the same period of 2021 in which 116,214 vehicles were sold.
the domestic market “It has been showing a slight contraction due to the lack of supply”said Galdeano and stressed that in this scenario, without neglecting the challenges and appealing to the good dialogue that is maintained with the Government “It is necessary to find a quick solution to Central Communication A 7466 which, as we have been alerted, will impact the sector’s production.”
Besides, added that “The industry remains expectant about the treatment and approval of the laws for the Promotion of New Investments and Sustainable Mobility in Congress because they will create the conditions to promote the development of our sector at a time when new investments are being defined.”
