Last year, exports from Argentina to Spain amounted to 1,849 million dollars, which meant a “marked increase” of 67.6% compared to 2020.
Among the main products exported by Argentina were flour and “pellets” from the extraction of soybean oil (39.7% of the total), shrimp and prawns (19.7%), crude soybean oil (6, 8%) and biodiesel and its blends (3.3%).
Meanwhile, Argentine imports from Spain totaled 1,084 million dollars in 2021, “implying a significant rise of 53.6% compared to 2020,” according to the report. The main products imported from Spain were gasoline (13.9% of the total), pitch (2.5%), fishing boats (1.9%) and agglomerated cork manufactures (1.9%).
The balance of the trade balance with Spain registered a surplus of 765 million dollars for Argentina in 2021, the highest since 2012. In 2020 the balance of bilateral trade had presented a surplus for Argentina of 397 million dollars.
The CAC report points out that in 2021, although Argentine exports to Spain reached their highest value in the last nine years, they are still 39.2% below their historical maximumreached in 2011 with 3,042 million dollars.
For its part, although imports from Spain grew in 2021, they are still 25.4% below the historical maximum achieved in 2017.
The CAC released this report prior to President Alberto Fernández embarking on a trip to Europe next week that will have Spain as one of the main destinations.
