Verbund takes over wind power and photovoltaic systems in Spain

The PV system in the Castilla-La Mancha region south of Madrid has an output of 82 megawatts (MW) and is already in operation. In addition, Verbund has acquired a development platform for wind and PV projects, the company announced in a broadcast on Monday. The development platform involves two possible expansion stages of the existing PV park. There are already concrete plans for a capacity of around 2,100 MW, projects for a further 2,400 MW of capacity are still in the early stages of planning, a spokeswoman for the association told APA. Together with the development platform, the group has already taken over a development team. The seller was the Q-Energy Group.

The purchase is the third acquisition in Spain for Verbund. The company wants to diversify the expansion of renewable energies in the coming years and generate 20 to 25 percent of its electricity from photovoltaics and wind power by 2030. In Austria, the company generates electricity primarily from hydropower.
