New infrastructure projects in Germany often take years. This is partly due to the tough approval procedures. Johannes Vogel sees progress in importing liquefied natural gas.
The deputy FDP chairman Johannes Vogel generally calls for more speed in the approval process, based on the model of the new infrastructure for importing liquefied natural gas (LNG).
«The fast approval procedures for floating LNG terminals at the two locations Wilhemshaven and Brunsbüttel show how fast projects can go. We should see the speed of the LNG terminal as a blueprint,” said Vogel, who is also the first parliamentary director of the FDP parliamentary group, the German press agency.
It should be checked whether this acceleration and changed regulations can be transferred to other important projects. “I am thinking in particular of projects that serve to decarbonize and expand renewable energies and for which the coming years will be crucial years,” said Vogel. He also mentioned the construction of highway bridges. The FDP politician named the goal of no longer letting important modernization measures suffocate in endless processes.
In response to the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, the federal government is stepping up the pace of building an LNG infrastructure. Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) signed leases for four floating terminals, so-called Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU), last week. The first floating platform is scheduled to go into operation in Wilhelmshaven this year.
