This happened because imports rose more than exports (28.2% vs. 19.9%), reaching US$1,002 million and US$432 million, respectively. Still, sales to the country in question were the highest in eight years.
“In 2021, Argentine exports to France reached an almost identical value to the year 2013, which means an improvement with respect to the previous seven years in which they decreased until reaching their minimum level in 2017. For their part, imports grew in 2021 and only exceeded the values of 2019 and 2020, although they are still below the values registered between 2010 and 2018“, remarked from the CAC.
The main item of import from France was diesel or semi-diesel piston engines for cars (7.6% of the total), followed by medicines with hormones (5.1%) and medicines conditioned for retail sale (3%).
On the export side, shipments of meal and pellets from soybean oil extraction accounted for 38.2% of the total. Far behind, the podium was completed by sales of peanuts and microorganism cultures.
It is worth noting that during the last two decades, bilateral trade with France produced a deficit for Argentina almost every year. The worst records were recorded in 1998 and 1999. At the other extreme, only in 2002 and 2003 (in the midst of the post-crisis at the local level) was there a positive balance.
