Central Bank meets on Friday with automakers

The questions mainly point to a BCRA regulation that sets a limit for the payment of purchases abroad in cash. This limit is 5% higher than the dollars acquired in 2021 or 70% higher than those requested in 2020. On these two indices, the lower is used. The owners of the firms point out that between international inflation and the growth in demand for the economic recovery, with the imposed ceiling, it is not enough to meet production plans.

From the Central Bank they explained to Ámbito: “The rule is designed for firms that were overstocked thinking that the exchange rate was going to jump. Now the idea is that they use those stocks that they have more to help finance part of the growth in imports.” In that line, they detailed: “Particular issues are being addressed and an answer will be given so as not to affect production. The objective is to maintain the macro norm but without affecting the national industry, fundamentally when it comes to exports”.

With this scenario, Miguel Angel Pesce will receive the chamber that brings together the main terminals located in the country. Although the monetary entity indicated that “there is a case-by-case analysis”, a source from the sector consulted by this means assured “we are very concerned, for now we continue the same as when we sent the letter, but with less time to solve the problem ” .

This week, during the congress organized by the United States Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, senior government officials tried to clear up the uncertainty regarding access to foreign currency. The Minister of Productive Development, Matias Kulfas said: “Import dollars will be available”. Along the same lines, the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Serge Massa held that “It is the responsibility of the government that all the dollars linked to economic growth are guaranteed.”

As Ámbito learned, the Central Bank will take different proposals to companies to find a solution to the problem. The Government is studying the possibility of requesting companies to obtain financing from foreign entities to meet part of the imports.
