“The firm INSTITUTO DE AGROBIOTECNOLOGÍA ROSARIO SA (INDEAR SA) is empowered to market the seed, and the products and by-products derived from it, from IND-ØØ412-7 wheat,” the statement in the Official Gazette said.
“Wheat varieties may be marketed with the event after their corresponding registration in INASE, a decentralized body in the orbit of the aforementioned Ministry”clarifies.
The Resolution indicates that on November 11, 2021, the CTNBIO of Brazil approved the commercialization of wheat flour in the HB4 event. “It is stated that the steps corresponding to the commercial approval of the wheat flour of the INDØØ412-7 event in said country have been fulfilled.”
“By means of the manifest opinion CTNBIO officially expresses that after having received the technical statements requested from the company (TMG / Bioceres), it considers that these comply with national standards and internationally accepted criteria for the safety analysis of genetically modified raw materials and concludes that the HB4 genetically modified wheat flour (registered as event IND-ØØ412-7) is safe for human and animal health, as is the flour produced from conventional wheat grains”, cites the Resolution.
The new event does not have the endorsement of the wheat chain, since they warn that it could lead to the loss of markets for the Argentine cereal, whose exports are mainly destined for Brazil. “This rule causes an enormous commercial risk”said the chamber of grain exporters of Argentina CEC on its Twitter account, where it added that “the economic consequences of eventual market losses will fall on the Ministry and the development company.”
