Former Gazprom-Germania companies have recently stopped receiving natural gas from their former parent company. The gas supply in Germany remains stable, says the Federal Network Agency.
The Russian sanctions against companies in the energy sector are still not having any impact on gas supplies in Germany. According to the Federal Network Agency, the supply is stable and security of supply continues to be guaranteed.
Gas quantities missing due to sanctions are currently being procured in full via the European gas market.
On Wednesday, Moscow ordered a gas supply freeze against former Gazprom subsidiaries abroad, especially from the Gazprom Germania group of companies. From Moscow it was said that the sanctioned companies were completely excluded from gas trading with Russia. Gas transit through the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine had already been throttled. Gazprom Germania has been under the supervision of the Federal Network Agency since the beginning of April.
The wholesale gas price retreated on Friday after rising on Thursday. In the afternoon, natural gas to be delivered on the Dutch trading platform TTF cost 102 euros per megawatt hour in June after 106.7 euros the day before.
The federal government puts the amount that is no longer supplied to the Gazprom-Germania companies at ten million cubic meters a day. According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, extrapolated over a year, this corresponds to around three percent of the total annual consumption of natural gas in Germany.
Among the affected companies belonging to Gazprom Germania is the gas trader Wingas, which supplies public utilities and industrial companies, among others. Upon request, Wingas confirmed that it would no longer receive gas volumes from Russia, but emphasized: “Customers will continue to receive their contractually agreed volumes reliably.” To supply customers, they use a “diversified portfolio” and procure natural gas at various European trading points.
