Martín Guzmán met with Feletti to outline the new strategy against inflation

The results so far have not been satisfactory because inflation has skyrocketed in the last two months and since January the price of food has accumulated a rise of close to 30%.

Both close to Guzmán and Feletti they sought to tone down the meeting by calling it “management and routine”, but the fact that the secretary has walked the three blocks from Diagonal Sur to the Palacio de Hacienda to sit in front of Guzmán leaves a political signal to consider.

During the day, Roberto Feletti also met with directors of fresh pasta chambers, owners of pizzerias, empanada houses and related activities, and bakers’ associations, in the framework of the launch of the Argentine Wheat Stabilizing Fundthe mechanism established by the Government to decouple the prices of the internal market from the volatility that they present at the international level.

The tool established by the Government is already implemented and has the first companies registered to receive the corresponding subsidies.

After meeting yesterday with the milling chambers, the Secretariat called this time the manufacturing sector that will use the subsidized flour and its derivatives in the elaboration of its products.

During the meeting, Feletti provided details and precisions on how the Fund will operate and reported that the trust is ready to start operating. In this regard, he said that there are milling companies that have already completed their registration to be part of the mechanism, while others are in the process of submitting the required documentation.

The private companies are the recipients of the disbursements of the trust, but not the intermediate agglutinating structures such as federations, associations and other entities. In the next few days, the Investment and Foreign Trade Bank (BICE) -which operates as the administrator of the trust will make the first transfers and the first bags of flour will arrive to the merchants.

By way of closing, the officials stressed that in the framework of a very difficult world situation marked by the increase in international food prices, the National Government is making a great effort and making available all the necessary tools to stabilize the price of flour in order to guarantee that final consumers can buy bread and other products made with this cereal at affordable and predictable prices.
