The rain makes the farmers difficult. And in many places, earnings expectations are being revised downwards.
According to the farmers’ association, unfavorable weather hinders the harvest in Germany.
“In many regions the farmers are struggling with the persistent rain showers and in a sense ‘stealing’ the grain from the fields,” said the President of the German Farmers’ Association, Joachim Rukwied, in Berlin. Farmers would have to revise their yield expectations downwards.
Except for a few remaining areas, the winter barley has now been harvested. The farmers estimate the actual harvest volume to be almost 9 million tons; at the beginning of the harvest they had hoped for 9.3 million tons.
In the case of wheat, too, there are indications that previous yield expectations will have to be revised downwards. The regional fluctuations are large here, however. Depending on the growing area, the actual harvest could be up to 15 percent below expectations in June.
According to initial figures, expectations for the rye harvest and most summer cereals would not be fulfilled either. However, because the harvest is still small, it is too early for a precise extrapolation. The farmers’ association expects a harvest of 3.4 million tons for winter rape instead of the forecast 3.7 million tons.
