As a result of the extreme price increases caused by the Ukraine war, diesel has cost more than petrol since the beginning of March. Now the trend is changing.
While the price of petrol has risen sharply for the third week in a row, diesel is currently becoming cheaper. Within a week, premium petrol of the E10 variety increased by 5.4 cents, as the ADAC announced on Wednesday.
On a nationwide daily average on Tuesday, the fuel cost 2.090 euros. Diesel, on the other hand, became cheaper by 2.1 cents to 2.028 euros.
In the course of the extreme price increases caused by the Ukraine war, diesel had cost more than the E10 since the beginning of March. Just last week, the ratio had reversed again. Diesel is usually much cheaper than petrol because of lower taxes. On average over the past few years, the distance to the E10 was mostly around 14 cents.
The ADAC criticizes the current price level as “significantly excessive”. In view of the prospect of a reduction in taxes on fuel, ADAC Transport President Gerhard Hillebrand called on the oil companies to “fully exhaust the scope for relief and pass it on to consumers”. In addition, it is important to prepare the changeover well so that “there are no shortages or major delays in the price reduction”.
