“In the accumulated 2022, consumption still persists with positive rates in self-services. In the case of large stores, it shows a small growth of 0.8%. However, in April – seasonally adjusted – all stores lost consumption. The average purchase ticket grows due to the nominal value of inflation but falls in volumes,” said the director of the consulting firm, Damián Di Pace.

The report revealed that while – on average – a typical family requires about $42,500 per month to access a basic food basket, considering the Care Prices program, outside of that official plan the same basket requires $45,000, at the country level. But in the Federal Capital and the first cordon of the Buenos Aires conurbation, between $7,000 and $8,000 additional are needed.
When analyzing the situation of consumption by products, they all fell in April: Food and Personal Care are the ones that registered the greatest retraction, while Beverages and Cleaning presented negative variations of lesser magnitude in the accumulated 2022. The decline in Beverages was leveraged by the Alcoholic, which fell 3.5% while those without alcohol advanced 0.2%
In this framework, Di Pace considered that the paritarias “try to compensate for the loss of purchasing power of 9 million people. But the rest of the Argentines live on an income that is not constant with their work, trade or small business.”
In addition, he indicated that the increase in the non-taxable minimum Income Tax in the working sector “updated to $265,000, contrasts with the $64,000 from which a self-employed entrepreneur must pay taxes.”
