The countries of the European Union are proving difficult to agree on a common embargo for Russian oil. Economics Minister Habeck is sticking to it.
Before the World Economic Forum in Davos, Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck spoke out in favor of an oil embargo against Russia jointly supported by the European Union.
The negotiations must be controlled by the European Commission, said the Green politician on Deutschlandfunk on Monday. He spoke of a concerted action in which the European Union must lead the way.
“It doesn’t help now if all countries start doing their own thing. Europe’s strength was in this phase, that it stood together, stood together,” said Habeck. That also includes the sometimes difficult partner countries, in this case Hungary. He was confident that the EU would find a common line. Habeck admitted, however, that he was disappointed that the introduction of the oil embargo took so long.
