One of the officials who had repeatedly called for an increase in export duties is Robert Feletti, who on Monday afternoon submitted his resignation from the position of Secretary of Domestic Trade. The power struggle within the government itself probably wore down a relationship that was no longer sustainable.
The increase in export duties requested by Internal Trade had been ruled out on several occasions, but now Fernández himself is the one who induces the debate.
From the productive sector, there are no expectations of improvement in the economy after the change of officials. Carlos Iannizzotto, head of CONINAGRO, assured Ámbito that “beyond Feletti’s departure, we believe that governing is a joint task, therefore that Feletti has left does not mean that the ideas of interventionism will also leave, because they belong to a way of seeing politics and the economy that is that of Kirchnerism. It is nothing personal but rather a question of politics and management: we do not agree with populism or with the ideology that they carry forward”.
According to Iannizzotto, “What Martin Guzman does from now on is a question mark, because the government does not have a single leader. One part has been constituted in opposition so this is an unfavorable strategy for the country. It is about putting obstacles and not managing, therefore Guzmán is also within a political strategy that we do not see with good eyes neither for the field nor for the country. In any case, we are going to continue working and producing”.
Along the same lines, Gabriel de Raedemaeker, Vice President of the Argentine Rural Confederations (CRA), declared to this medium that “if they consider that by increasing tax pressure they are going to be able to control the price of food, we are going wrong. Regardless of the names and beyond the damage that Feletti did to the country due to the deprivation of income, if there is not a change of conception, of vision of production and of the way to fight inflation, it is not at all hopeful ”.
From the agribusiness sector, Gustavo Idigoras, President of the Chamber of the Oil Industry and the Cereal Exporters Center, assured Ámbito that “Feletti’s departure is a strong position for Guzman. Now all economic policy decisions -including prices- will be made by the Minister of the Economy. It will be essential to review the price policies at the factory because the increases granted up to now have been well below real inflation”. This situation affected several industries that buy merchandise at dollar prices but have agreed prices on the shelves.
According to Idigoras, “the rise in withholdings is now much further from happening because Guzman does not share that idea, since he knows that it will not lower inflation but it would affect the amount of dollars for the coming months, which is the biggest problem of the economy”.
For nowthe productive sector remains attentive to the next guidelines that the new Secretary of Domestic Trade may give, Guillermo Hang, who will answer directly to the Ministry of Economy.
