Impact of inflation

The official information shows the scenario generated last March when the increase in prices jumped to 6.7%, which prompted many consumers to protect themselves when buying large quantities.

Meanwhile, sales at shopping centers during March, measured at constant prices, were 24.6% above the same month last year, and 7.5% above February.

Invoicing at current prices in supermarkets amounted to $169,975 million during the third month of the year, with a year-on-year increase of 57.6%. Of this total, 30.3% was through cash, 28% with a debit card, 36.9% with a credit card and the remaining 4.7% with other means of payment.

The jurisdictions where the most important increases in total sales at current prices were registered were: Santa Cruz, 70.1%; La Rioja, 69.2%; Jump, 68.3%; San Luis, 64.2% and Tierra del Fuego with 63.8%.

As for the large shopping centers, total revenues totaled $2,513 million.

The Implicit Price Index for March 2022 showed a rise of 57.9% year-on-year, and 8.7% compared to February.

In the composition by item of the gross leaseable area, it is observed that the largest share corresponds to the item “Clothing, footwear and leather goods”, 29.3%; followed by “Fun and recreation”, 26.1%, “Food court, food and kiosks”, 10.6%; and “Others”, 9.8%.

For its part, the sale of electrical appliances in exclusive stores of the sector grew by 52.3% year-on-year in the first quarter at current prices, that is, measuring the impact of price inflation. Meanwhile, wholesale self-services totaled $29,379.7 million, which meant an increase of 60.4% year-on-year at current prices and 2.1% if the effect of inflation is discounted.

In March 2022, total sales at current prices in the showroom amounted to $29,093 million, which represents 99.0% of total sales and an increase of 59.5% compared to March 2021.

For its part, total sales at current prices through online channels totaled 286,146 thousand pesos, which represents 1.0% of total sales and an increase of 335.7% compared to the same month of the previous year.
