The Danish shipping company Maersk is raising its expectations for the third quarter after a successful second.
The world’s largest shipping company Maersk continues to make profits. The bottom line for the Danes was an increase of 3.7 billion dollars (3.2 billion euros) for the Danes in the second quarter, mainly thanks to continued exceptional market conditions in the ocean business with high freight rates and volumes.
That let the net profit in the first half of the year swell to 6.5 billion dollars. This was announced by the company AP Møller-Mærsk in its semi-annual report presented on Friday after it had already published the first preliminary figures at the beginning of the week.
Revenue increased in the second quarter by 58 percent year-on-year to $ 14.2 billion. Calculated over the half-year, it was $ 26.7 billion, 44 percent higher than in the first six months of 2020, which had been under the impression of the Corona crisis.
In the course of the numbers and the good market situation, Maersk also raised its outlook. The result in the third quarter is expected to be above the level of the second, according to a trade update on Monday evening. However, the shipping company pointed out that the trading conditions for the following periods would continue to fluctuate above average due to the current demand situation, bottlenecks and interruptions in the global supply chains.
Maersk is considered the world’s leading shipping company. According to its own information, the company is active in 130 countries and employs almost 80,000 people.
