In this way, the AFIP regulations incorporate new information requirements for companies in the sector -such as Mercado Pago, Ualá, Naranja X, Viumi, Bimo, Moni, Personal Pay and Todo Pago, among others-, although it does not imply changes for the users.
Also, virtual wallets must inform when the final monthly balance that the user has in his account is greater than or equal to $90,000.
Previously, the amount was $10,000, in both cases, and, according to the resolution in its recitals, for “tax administration reasons” it was “advisable to update the base amounts from which the obliged subjects must report income, expenses and final monthly account balance.
“The AFIP resolution incorporates new requirements that optimize the control capacity and quality of the information on these assets and expands the capacity to guarantee compliance with tax obligations,” the entity that leads Mercedes Marcó del Pont said in a statement.
In this sense, a threshold of $200,000 will be established from which the firms in the sector must report bank or virtual transfers.
In line with the development of electronic means of payment, since this year the AFIP incorporated virtual wallets to the list of assets on which to place embargoes to collect the debts accumulated by delinquent taxpayers.
The agency defined the procedure that its officials will follow when requesting an embargo on these types of assets from the justice system.
Until now, the embargoes on delinquent taxpayers that the AFIP requires from the courts were carried out on bank accounts, personal property, real estate and credits, among others.
However, the development of electronic means of payment and their widespread use explains the AFIP’s decision to include digital accounts in the list of assets that can be seized to collect debts.
According to data from the Central Bank (BCRA) as of December 2021, 46.5% of adults in Argentina -16.3 million people- had at least one virtual wallet (CVU) in their name, of which the 91.5% also had at least one bank account (CBU) registered under their ownership.
