The opposition presented a project to remove two zeros from the peso

The truth is that while the Frente de Todos is still locked in its political discussion, wages are unable to cope with the price spiral. And the difficulty to reach the end of the month is increasing.

In this context, from the opposition they proposed as an alternative to remove two zeros from the Argentine peso. The proposal came from the vice president of the PRO block in Deputies, Gerard Milman, who made it known through social networks.

“The government decided to change the images of our currency without advancing in the issuance of higher denomination bills. The reality is that with those tickets you can buy fewer things every day. That is why I presented a bill to remove two zeros from the Argentine peso”said the deputy.

The initiative has the support of Hernán Lombardi, Héctor Antonio Stefani, Aníbal Tortoriello, Karina Bachey, Manuel Aguirre, Claudio Poggi, Gerardo Cipolini, and Alberto Assef.

What does the project say

In its first article, the project points out that “As of the date to be set by the regulations, the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic will issue banknotes and coins, legal tender, which will circulate with the denomination of ‘peso’, on the parity of one (1) ‘peso’ equivalent to one hundred (100) pesos (Decree No. 2128/1991). The hundredth part of the peso will be called a ‘cent’”.

In addition, it indicates that the values fixed in pesos until the date of issuance of the new denomination “will be converted to ‘pesos’ and ‘cents’ on the basis of the parity established in article 1”.

Regarding the banknotes and coins that are in circulation at that time “they will maintain their legal tender throughout the national territory” but they will do so under an “equivalent” in pesos and cents until “their timely exchange by the BCRA is arranged, in the term and form determined by the latter”.

Parallel to the presentation of the initiative, the deputy Milman lashed out at the president, about whom he said that “instead of dealing with inflation, he focuses on looking for enemies” and considered that instead of relating reality he should “deal with it.”

The main demand of Argentines “today is inflation and the President, instead of thinking about the former president (Mauricio Macri), who has done good things and others he did not finish, should deal with inflation,” he said.

For Milman, “the fundamental contradiction in Argentina is populism versus republicanism”, and he recalled: “In last year’s elections we showed that we could beat the ruling party. In our coalition we don’t all think the same but we share values.”

In another section of the interview, he considered that “poverty is resolved with education and work, not with pickets” and stated: “We must create employment, we do not need organizations that force people to commit crimes.”

“If they help people, they are welcome, but these organizations that force them to get on the bus, that take their list, that charge them a part of the plan, these organizations do not have to administer the plans. The plans have to be administered by the State, which is huge,” he concluded.
