Per capita dairy consumption grew as a result of the pandemic

The figures are part of a presentation called “Argentines and dairy consumption, a look at the benefits and functionalities of milk”, in which journalists and specialists from the sector participated.

The study carried out also shows that “as in previous measurements, 6 out of 10 consume only 1 serving or less of dairy products per day.”

In this sense, the Mastellone market research manager (MHSA), Emiliano Schwartz, He maintained in dialogue with Télam that “from the perspective of consumption, the pandemic generated a growth in dairy based on the longer time spent at home.”

The per capita consumption of liters of milk, according to the report of the Argentine Dairy Chain Observatory (OCLA) on which the report is also based, peaked in 1999 with a total of 232 equivalent liters per inhabitant per year.

In 2019, a value of 182 liters was recorded, and after the pandemic, in 2021, per capita consumption reached a value of 188.88 liters, above the 185 in 2020.

“The equivalent liters, is the translation into liters of milk of all the products that are consumed in the domestic market (fluid milk, cheeses, powdered milk, dulce de leche, flans and desserts, etc.), depending on the quantity of milk used to make it,” they explained from OCLA.
