Wirecard: Investigative team opens abandoned office and finds a safe

A podcast team has achieved a real coup: They were able to rent a former Wirecard office. This has now been opened – listen to it at “Chasing Marsalek – Exit Wirecard”.

The extent of the Wirecard affair is still a matter of concern to the public. While the pre-trial detention of the former Wirecard CEO Markus Braun has just been extended, his accomplice Jan Marsalek is still on the run. The two are said to have cheated banks and investors by three billion euros with the help of manipulated balance sheets.

Wirecard: Investigative team was able to rent an office

An investigative team has now succeeded in renting a former Wirecard office, which was apparently abandoned in a hurry. Our video (see above) provides exclusive insights into this partly untouched office complex since it was vacated – including an unopened safe, the contents of which are (still) unknown.

When the journalists entered the office in Aschheim, a special picture was revealed to them: Here it looks as if the employees have simply left everything behind. Cups on the shelves, drawings on the whiteboards, champagne in the refrigerator, furniture. On the whiteboard, among other things, a unicorn, an atomic explosion and at the end a beautiful South Sea island with a large penis are drawn – the film “The Wolf of Wall Street” sends its regards.

What is in the safe of the Wirecard office?

Special attention from the podcast team, however, is given to the contents of a safe that is still in the office and unopened – still! Because the team has the safe opened as part of its podcast recordings and is also discussing its content in the current episode. Author and host Bettina Weiguny, who already worked on the big UFA / TVNOW documentary “The Big Fake”, is looking forward to revealing the contents of the safe. You can listen to the podcast episode here:

Wirecard, the company once traded as a German technology hope, had granted air bookings of 1.9 billion euros in the summer of 2020. As a service provider for cashless payments at checkouts and on the Internet, the company wanted to stir up the competitive payment service provider market. The prerequisites as an interface between merchants and credit card companies were perfect for this – apparently also the temptation to make quick money. According to the current state of the investigation, Wirecard apparently made losses for years.

The responsible Munich public prosecutor assumes that fictitious profits have been reported since 2015. According to the calculations by the authorities, banks and investors alone lost more than three billion euros.

This is what the podcast “Chasing Marsalek – Exit Wirecard” is about

While the big scandal was dealt with once again in the TVNOW original “The Big Fake”, the podcast series “Chasing Marsalek – Exit Wirecard” is dedicated to Jan Marsalek, who has hitherto been a volatile accomplice. There is still no trace of the Austrian. The investigative team around Bettina Weiguny is always looking for new approaches – as in the case of renting an office – to find Marsalek and documents them in their podcast, which you can listen to.
