Robot “Bella” turned heads when she walked in the door and delivered the green books entitled “Learn What’s Inside You”. It was a foretaste of the new course program of the Economic Development Institute of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce (Wifi). “We have adapted the books to the educational trends and want to use this to illustrate the connection between humans and robots,” said WKOÖ President Doris Hummer at the presentation in Linz. The 548-page page contains more offers on future topics such as energy technology, electromobility or digitization. The demand for 2022/23 is already very high, said Hummer. For courses with a focus on the environment, more than half the number of registrations than usual was recorded. The rush was particularly high in the energy sector, reported Wifi curator Georg Spiegelfeld. In the new courses, the participants learn about the construction of solar systems or heat pumps. The Wifi is not only expanding in terms of content, but more courses are now being held in the twelve regional training centers. This should make training and further education easier, in addition to the online offer. What does not change: “We continue to see ourselves as a skilled worker,” said Harald Wolfslehner, head of the institute at Wifi Upper Austria. Supporting apprentices is one of them, but people who have not completed their training are also increasingly being given a chance.
All locations – from Bad Ischl to Rohrbach – offer free German courses so that refugees from the Ukraine can also gain a foothold in the local job market. There are currently 550 Ukrainian users registered with Wifi. (vegan)
