Corona pandemic: circles: government extends corona economic aid

First, they should fill the biggest holes in the Corona crisis by the end of September, now the federal government apparently wants to extend the bridging aid again.

According to information from the German Press Agency, the federal government has agreed on the extension of Corona economic aid.

The bridging aid III Plus, which has been running until the end of September, as well as the facilitation of access to short-time working allowance are to be extended until the end of the year, as it was said on Tuesday in government circles on the sidelines of the deliberations of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) with the prime ministers of the states.

Economics Minister Peter Altmaier (CDU) and Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) had already promised an extension of the bridging aid, while Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) had spoken out in favor of extending the short-time allowance. Both are central government instruments worth billions to cushion the effects of the pandemic on jobs and companies.

A few weeks ago, the federal government decided that Bridging Aid III, which was previously limited to the end of June, will be continued as “Bridging Aid III Plus” until September. A new feature is a “restart bonus”, with which companies can receive a higher subsidy for personnel costs – if, for example, they bring staff back from short-time work or hire new ones.

Fixed operating costs are reimbursed for the bridging aid. The prerequisite for applications is that companies have suffered a corona-related drop in sales of at least 30 percent compared to the reference month in 2019 in one month of the funding period.
