Corona pandemic: Corona economic aid should be extended

First of all, they should fill the biggest holes in the companies in the corona crisis by the end of September, now the federal government is again extending the bridging aid.

The Corona economic aid is to be extended until the end of the year. This was announced by Federal Economics Minister Peter Altmaier (CDU) on Tuesday after the deliberations of the federal and state governments. The current bridging aid III Plus is currently limited to the end of September.

“At the Prime Minister’s Conference today, we decided to extend the bridging aid for companies that are particularly affected by the consequences of the coronavirus until the end of the year,” said Altmaier. “We remain firmly by the side of our companies and employees. For our economy as a whole, vaccination is and will remain the central key. Every further vaccination protects life and health, but also our economy. “

According to information from the German Press Agency, the easing of access to short-time allowance should now run until the end of the year, as it was called in government circles.

Merkel said after the deliberations that the federal government had promised that the bridging aid would be extended. According to the decision paper, the states are asking the federal government to extend the easier access to short-time work allowance.

Economics Minister Peter Altmaier (CDU) and Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) had already promised an extension of the bridging aid, while Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) had spoken out in favor of extending the short-time allowance. Both are central government instruments worth billions to cushion the consequences of the pandemic for jobs and companies.

A few weeks ago, the federal government decided that Bridging Aid III, which was previously limited to the end of June, will be continued as “Bridging Aid III Plus” until September. A new feature is a “restart bonus”, with which companies can receive a higher subsidy for personnel costs – if, for example, they bring staff back from short-time work or hire new ones.

Fixed operating costs are reimbursed for the bridging aid. The prerequisite for applications is that companies have suffered a corona-related drop in sales of at least 30 percent compared to the reference month in 2019 in one month of the funding period.
