in May the basic basket rose 37% in Buenos Aires

In the first five months of this 2022, the CBA increased 36.87%. Last December, the value of basic food for the same family amounted to $31,489.95, while last May it cost $43,592, which meant an increase of $12,102.

These increases in the prices of essential foods; continue to go above the increases in minimum wages. In December the Minimum Vital and Mobile Wage was set at $32,000, for April and May it reached $38,940; that is to say, that in the five months that the cost of the CBA increased $12,100, (+37%), the Minimum Wage rose a little more than half of that value: $6,940 (+22%).

The Universal Child Allowance (AUH) also lagged behind in the race against food prices: in December families received $5,676 per child, in May they received $6,374, that is, while the CBA increased 37%, the AUH rose 12, 29%.

Within the values ​​of the CBA, greengrocery products, which in previous months came with lower increases, rebounded again and once again led the increases by item: +39.10% since December, while those of warehouse reached increase 38.91% average, and those of butchery were in a “modest” +33.46%, always in the period December 21/May 2022.

This acceleration of the increases in the first five months of the current year, in turn, considerably raises the percentage of increases in the interannual calculation. In May 2021, according to the IBP survey in the Greater Buenos Aires area, the value of the CBA for a family of four was $26,684.44, and last May it was $43,592, meaning that the same family needed $16,907.58 more ( $63.36%) to cover the same expenses.

Within the annual increases of the CBA products, the warehouse item was the one that contributed the most, with 69.85%, followed by meat: 62.07%, while fruits and vegetables increased 48.55 %.
