“The situation is very complex because there are four provinces in the Northeast of the country that are not connected to the natural gas network: Chaco, Corrientes, Formosa and Misiones. A cut in the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in those territories would put them on the brink of energy collapse. For now, and with great efforts by the companies in the sector, they are managing to supply 100% of the country. However, the situation is at the limit.”
It should be noted that the LPG fractionated by the companies associated with CEGLA gives energy to 40% of the population of Argentina. Its use is widespread and essential for homes, industries, businesses, regional economies, and it is even a fuel that is exported to neighboring countries at certain times of the year. “We offer an economical and safe product. We urgently need the supply of diesel throughout the territory to be regularized,” concluded Cascales.
It also impacts other sectors
The president of the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises (CAME)Alfredo González, warned today that “the shortage of diesel puts regional economies on the verge of collapse” and called for an “urgent solution” to prevent the crisis from further impacting prices.
The business leader explained that “the reports that reach us from different parts of the country are serious because they are affecting the operation of the producers.”
At the same time, González explained that “we must prevent the installation of a parallel diesel market, as a result of the lack of fuel and the desperation of the producers who urgently need to continue working.”
The head of CAME pointed out that the northern provinces are the most affected and that the situation in neighboring towns, where trucks arrive from abroad to stock up on cheap fuel, “requires taking action on the matter without delay.”
“We are at a time when a lot of work has to be done to reduce inflation. We want that to happen and for the country to move forward. Therefore, it is imperative to resolve as soon as possible the lack of diesel that is putting our regional economies in checkGonzalez added.
