Alexis Guerrera highlighted the presidential decision to federalize and democratize the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway

“After 26 years of concession, our president Alberto Fernández made the decision to federalize and democratize the main waterway, taking into account the environmental impact of the works carried out. We are showing that the State can be efficient and transparent by managing these strategic points for the country”, said Guerrera when participating in the opening of the IV Hemispheric Conference on Waterways, Inland Ports and Cruise Ships”organized by the General Administration of Ports (AGP) together with the Organization of American States (OAS).

The conference, which takes place at the Kirchner Cultural Center, was convened by the AGP, an agency under the Ministry of Transportation, together with the Technical Advisory Council of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP), the port agency of the OAS.

During his speech, Guerrera stated: “We created the National Entity for the Control and Management of the Waterway to create the specifications for the new main waterway projecting the next 15 or 20 years, with a view that integrates regional economies, tourism, fishing, the participation of each province in the debates and decision-making, and listening to each of the governors”.

Along these lines, he also pointed out that “at the same time we are developing the railway port accesses, the bypasses, generating a network of railway routes, logistics nodes. That is why we want this trunk waterway to integrate tourism, production, our country and the entire region, in an efficient, economical, dynamic and modern way”.

The opening of the conference was in charge of the comptroller of the AGP, José Beni.

In his presentation, Beni said that “the State’s presence in the administration of the road aims to provide a strategic and comprehensive view, where the commercial development that the country and exporters need is complemented by the no less necessary investment.”
