In the last episode of the podcast season, Simone Menne gives tips for starting a new employer, advocates a diversity quota – and explains why she was so cheeky about Carolin Kebekus.
Newcomers to the company want to show what they can do very quickly. In the new episode of stern-Podcasts “Die Boss” warns host Simone Menne, multi-member of the supervisory board and ex-Lufthansa board member, not to overdo it. Something else is important when starting out: “Listening a lot at the beginning,” she says, “don’t know everything right away.” There is one thing in particular that does not please anyone with a new employer: If you constantly point out how you always did it in the old company. It is better to write down everything you think is funny at the beginning – and only change it when it still bothers you after 100 days. In a new environment you have to “wait long enough to notice whether things might make sense after all.”
In the last episode of the second podcast season of “Die Boss”, Simone Menne also takes stock of the twelve conversations, for example with comedian Carolin Kebekus (whose comedy she didn’t really think much of before the conversation) with Merck boss Belén Garijo (who had just come to the top of the pharmaceutical company as the first sole DAX CEO) and the Green Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock. Menne – who recently became a member of the Greens – is very busy with their election campaign. The treatment of the three candidates for chancellor is not equal, she says. It is astonishing: “Women and men perceive women differently.”
The limits of the women’s quota
In Menne’s opinion, some legal changes are needed after the election so that equality can be achieved in society: For example, abolish splitting of spouses, set parental leave at 50:50 between men and women and also rethink the statutory quota for women in companies jumped too short: “We need a quota for diversity,” says Menne.
