the highest income grew seven times compared to the lowest

If we take into account the salary with the highest value against the one with the lowest value, the difference could extend to 65.2 times. Although there was an improvement in the average income in the year-on-year comparison, the disparities in the classification by gender were maintained and, in turn, there was a slight widening of the gap between the north and the south of the district.

“In a framework of recovery of employment and activity, significant year-on-year increases in the income of the population are observed,” highlighted the Dgeyc, which also maintained that “these variations allow the loss of real income produced especially during 2020 to be relatively recomposed” .

In the detail by area, the increase was 74.5% in the northern neighborhoods ($135,547), 63% in the central area ($92,321) and 72.7% in the south ($70,172).

In this way, the average income of the inhabitants of the northern neighborhoods of the City was in the first quarter a 46.8% older that of the central zone and 93.2% more than that of the south. The average income of the main occupation of the population stood at $90,386 with a year-on-year increase of 65.1%.

In this case, median male income was equivalent to $70,000 with an average of 40 weekly hours worked (without changes in the year-on-year comparison), while, for women, the values were $66,000 and an average of 35 hours (one more than in the same quarter of 2021).

Income from the main occupation of the salaried population reaches an average of $93,252, with an increase of 72.6% compared to the same period last year.

Self-employed people had an average income of $63,912, which represents a year-on-year variation of 47.8%, with a nominal increase lower than inflation.

Income by family group

The Average Total Family Income (ITF) of households was $153,351 with an interannual variation of 67.7%. In households in the north of the City, this value was 46.7% higher than that of those located in the south ($191,251 against $130,388) and compared to households in the center -which average $144,638- the difference was 32.2% in favor of the north.

The average Per Capita Family Income (IPCF) of households was $82,345 (74.5% increase compared to the same quarter of 2021), but the Dgeyc noted that “the difference in the average size of households -lesser in the north, higher in the south- leads to the average IPCF of the first of these areas being more than double that of the second”.

Gaps between north and south in the City

The values are $117,506 for the north zone, $78,342 for the center and $49,981 for the southwith gaps of 50% between the north and the center and 135.1% between the north and the south.

The 30% of households with the lowest IPCF, which group 39.5% of the population, received 14.2% of the sum of income.

At the other extreme, the 30% of households with the highest IPCF, which is equivalent to 21.4% of the population, appropriated 50.3% of the sum of the income.

The Gini coefficient (where zero represents absolute equality and 1 total inequality) showed a slight improvement in the different year-on-year comparisons.

For the employed population according to the income scale of the main occupation it was 0.406 (0.407 during the first quarter of 2021), according to the IPCF of the population it was 0.435 (0.444 a year ago) and according to the ITF of households it was 0.406 (0.407 for same period of the previous year).
