At the same time, the minister dismissed delays in the final approval of the review of the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (FM), which was announced on Wednesday, and anticipated that the agency’s board of directors is expected to discuss the negotiations on June 24.
Thus, he set a date for a procedure that will trigger the second disbursement established in the agreement by $4 billion. Hours earlier, the Fund’s spokesman had indicated that he had no set deadline for the board’s decision and said it could take between three and six weeks.
On the other hand, the minister again defended the project to tax unexpected income: “With today’s numbers, 350 companies would be affected by the unexpected income tax. The final number will be at the end of the year,” he estimated. At the same time he assured: “The project involves very large companies, it does not reach any SME.”
Regarding the claim about the Government’s attitude when there were “unexpected losses”, the head of the Palacio de Hacienda replied: “We know what happened when there was an unexpected loss: there was Repro, ATP”, he exemplified, about the economic policies that the ruling party launched during the pandemic.
In line with Cristina Kirchner’s position, the minister took a hard line against businessmen: “Business leaders have to assume their responsibility. Price gouging shouldn’t be laughable, it should be embarrassing.”
