The industry recovered and grew 5% monthly in April

The Manufacturing Industrial Production Index (IPIm) also rose by 4.7% year-on-year in April, so that the index accumulated in the first four months of the year presented an advance of 4% compared to the same period of the previous year, the agency added. Also, the April level is 9.2% above that of April 2019.

The INDEC pointed out that the trend-cycle series index registered a positive variation of 0.5% with respect to the previous month, and has accumulated 24 months on the rise.

The production index accelerated growth in year-on-year terms, after growing 3.7% year-on-year in March.

In the series without seasonality, the IPI for April grew again, recovering from the drop in March (-4.9%). With these data, it is located 12.6% above the pre-covid level of February 2020 and only -2.9% from the maximum of September 2017. For its part, the trend-cycle series registered an increase of 0.5%.

By sector, in April they grew year-on-year 11 of the 16 sectors. The largest year-on-year increases occurred in Other transport equipment (+49.1%; contribution +0.2 pp), Clothing, leather and footwear (+40.4%), the sector with the greatest contribution to growth in the month (+1.7 percentage points – pp-), Motor vehicles (+25.1%; contribution +1.0 pp), ¬Machinery and equipment (+21.9%; contribution +1.3 pp) and Rubber and plastic (+15.5%; contribution +0.7pp).

For their part, they reversed the fall of the previous month Oil refining (+9.2%), Non-metallic minerals (+5.3%) and Furniture and mattresses (+0.7%), to which are added the rises in Food and beverages (+3.5%) ), ¬Wood, paper, publishing and printing (+2.0%) and Chemicals (+1.4%).

On the contrary, they registered a year-on-year drop and reversed the rise of the previous month Basic metals (-21.9%), Tobacco (-17.5%), Textile products (-5.7%) and Metal products (-1.7%), adding to the drop in Other equipment, appliances and instruments (-6.8%).
