Alcohol is one of the most commonly bought items in supermarkets. Aldi, Lidl & Co. are now surprising with a decision: They are taking a popular schnapps from the range.
Supermarkets and food manufacturers keep fighting over prices. Normally these negotiations end lightly, but in some cases the business partners threaten to take the worst step: either the price is right – or the product is no longer delivered or sold.
In recent years there have been escalated disputes, for example between Edeka and Nestlé, and Pepsi, Granini and Tempo handkerchiefs have also been affected by similar price wars.
Dispute over pricing: food keeps falling out of the range
The latest argument about prices that are supposedly too expensive now concerns a popular liquor producer. The peppermint liqueur “Berliner Luft” is very popular, but is currently hardly available. The head of the spirits company Erlfried Baatz confirmed to the “Handelsblatt”: The delivery of the peppermint liqueur has been discontinued. And almost everywhere: “Apart from Markant, Metro and Netto-Stavenhagen, we are currently out in the entire food retail trade,” Baatz told the “Handelblatt”.
The reason for the delivery stop is simple: the supply contracts for the schnapps expired and the manufacturer Schilkin wanted to increase the price for the spirit at the same time. However, the dealers did not want to go along with it. The result: Schilkin stopped the delivery. Apparently with good arguments: At Edeka, a number of retailers have already switched and are now offering the popular “Berliner Luft” again. The simple reason: Too many customers had asked about the cult spirit and had to be sent out of the store without any goods.
