I work much more productively because nothing distracts me at home. Working from home is perfect for me!” That is the statement of one of 261 study participants from the financial sector who were asked by professors and research staff from the Controlling, Accounting and Financial Management course at the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences about their attitude towards working from home. 97 percent of the graduates from various financial professions ( Accounting, controlling, financial and risk management, tax and business consulting) are in favor of working from home. The reasons given are the elimination of commutes, flexible work schedules and concentrated work. A quarter stated that they had children who required care. 80 percent mentioned the better compatibility of work and care obligations.
Important information is missing
However, there are also disadvantages associated with working from home. The biggest problem is the lack of social contact. Because a lot of what welds a team together is missing in the home office: from the coffee break to lunch together. A smaller proportion of respondents feel that they are missing out on important information or that decision-making processes are becoming more complicated and time-consuming. 20 percent of employees said that they found it difficult to separate work and free time or that they did not have a suitable workplace at home.
When asked about the optimal extent of working from home, two days were often mentioned. The manager is expected to ensure that the team spirit is not lost.
