Toys: Playmobil mother suffers from high costs

Corona pandemic, difficulties with raw material deliveries as well as the Ukraine war also pose considerable challenges for the Playmobil mother. Revenues are declining.

The Horst-Brandstätter-Group, parent company of the toy brand Playmobil and Lechuza planters, had to accept a drop in sales in the past financial year.

The company announced on Thursday in Zirndorf near Nuremberg that revenue in the 2021/2022 financial year, which ended at the end of March, fell by 2.8 percent to 736 million euros. The group did not provide any information on the result.

The reasons for the decline in sales include extreme increases in freight costs and the sharp rise in costs for plastic. At Playmobil, the minus compared to the previous financial year was 4.3 percent. The Playmobil fun parks in particular suffered from restrictions caused by the pandemic.

Withdrew from Russia at an early age

“The global economy has never experienced the coincidence of a pandemic, war and shortages of raw materials, major challenges in the supply chains and, last but not least, the current inflation,” said Brandstätter CEO Steffen Höpfner. “We can’t escape it either.” In 2022, the company will forego sales of ten million euros. It was one of the first to withdraw from the Russian business.

The Horst Brandstätter Group will invest 50 million euros in climate protection over the next few years, with the aim of achieving climate neutrality by 2027. Closed material cycles in production are to be achieved by 2030. The Playmobil brand in particular has a great deal of responsibility in this regard, it said. Children should be shown from an early age how important it is to protect the planet.
