A fuel price of 69 cents? Drivers can only dream of this at the moment. In the USA, however, there was actually petrol at a ridiculous price – albeit through a momentous oversight.
The high fuel prices not only concern drivers in Germany, almost all over the world people are currently annoyed when they have to refuel. On the other hand, it must have been quite different for those who stopped at a Shell gas station in California: There you could get a gallon of fuel (which corresponds to almost 3.8 liters) for an unbeatable 69 cents.
However, this was not a special offer, but an accident, as reported by the television station ABC7. Actually, the price should have been $6.99 a gallon, ten times that. However, John Szczecina, the clerk assigned to set the price tag, had slipped on the decimal point. The small mistake had a significant impact: A total loss of $16,000 was incurred because the mistake was only noticed after three hours. Szczecina was fired.
Employee could be sued
In the Northern California town of Rancho Cordova (population 74,000), word of mouth quickly spread through social media and word of mouth that the gas station was selling gas at ridiculous prices. Motorists came en masse. Customers posted evidence photos and videos on Instagram. One user reported filling up his car for just $14. Some customers even came in several cars one after the other or filled canisters with diesel. Long queues formed in front of the pumps.
Unlucky John Szczecina can’t laugh about that at all. His carelessness cost him his job – and possibly a lot more. Szczecina fears his former employer could sue him for damages. That would probably mean his financial ruin. So his sister set up a crowdfunding campaign to collect donations for him. On the Internet, users have already called on those who have fueled cheaply due to Szczecina’s mistake to support the man.

Watch the video: Speed is a key factor in a car’s fuel consumption. Because the higher the speed, the greater the air resistance. If you want to use as little fuel as possible, you should always keep an eye on the speedometer.
