Shipbuilding: Launching for freight ferry in Flensburg

A total of 279 truck trailers fit on the “MV Tennor Ocean”. After the successful christening and launching in Flensburg, the ferry is scheduled to go on a test drive in autumn.

The Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) has launched a ship for the first time since its economic restart.

After the launch of the 210-meter-long RoRo ferry “MV Tennor Ocean” on Friday, the final technical equipment will be completed in the coming months. The first test drive is scheduled for autumn. The client is IVP Ship Invest, part of the Tennor Group of founder Lars Windhorst, to which the shipyard also belongs. According to the FSG, there are talks with international interested parties about a possible chartering or sale of the ferry intended for freight traffic. The ship can accommodate 279 truck trailers.

In 2020, the 150-year-old shipyard went through a crisis with insolvency, a restart with half the team, empty order books and short-time work. In the meantime, the management sees the company in calmer waters and has taken over the Rendsburg super yacht shipyard Nobiskrug.
