According to a survey, about a third of all Germans assume that they will have to limit their consumption for more than two years due to the high inflation.
Many Germans expect that price increases for many products will have a long-term impact on their consumption options. When asked how long they thought they would have to limit their consumption, 36 percent answered “more than two years” in a Civey survey commissioned by the newspapers of the Funke media group and published on Friday.
Eleven percent are preparing for restrictions for two years and twelve percent for restrictions for one year.
AfD supporters are the most pessimistic about inflationary restrictions
Only a total of eight percent of those surveyed stated that, in their opinion, they would only have to limit themselves between less than a month and half a year. 33 percent answered “don’t know” or “don’t limit me”.
AfD supporters were the most pessimistic in the survey. 55 percent of them assumed that they would have to reduce their consumption for more than two years. Young people were also significantly more optimistic than older people. Among the 30 to 39 year olds, only 27 percent assumed a period of more than two years.
More than 5,000 people over the age of 18 took part in the online survey conducted by the opinion research institute Civey between June 14 and 15, 2022.
