Skilled trades president Hans Peter Wollseifer sees increasing market potential in climate protection for the industry. He calls for more incentives so that citizens spend more money on energy efficiency.
Wollseifer told the German Press Agency: “Then more energy and emissions will be saved by making houses more energy-efficient, from solar systems to heat pumps. In the last legislative period, small steps were taken in the right direction. The steps must now get bigger and faster. “
The President of the Central Association of German Craftsmen said: “It is vital that we focus more on climate protection and tackle it more courageously.” There is considerable market potential for the craft. «Already today, around 450,000 craft businesses with almost 2.5 million employees in almost 30 trades are working daily in almost all areas on the energy transition and are implementing environmental and climate protection, be it in the expansion area, on the building envelope, in systems and building technology or with network expansion and mobility. When asked why customers sometimes have to wait a long time for a new heater, Wollseifer said: “It is indeed difficult.” At the moment, material procurement is an issue and, in principle, securing skilled workers. “In my impression, politics has still not really recognized the explosiveness of insufficiently qualified specialists for our society and economy.”
In order to be able to do all the work on climate protection, qualified specialists are required, said the craftsman president: If, for example, photovoltaics should be on the roofs, then it must be installed. “This also applies to building renovation, installing energy-efficient heating systems and much more. For this we need qualified specialists, but they don’t just fall from the sky. We have to train them. ” Therefore, vocational training must be strengthened.
