Compared to June 2019, which only had 3 days, 148.1% more tourists were mobilized, 94.2% more excursionists, while the average stay increased 32%, and daily spending rose 386.9%. The latter, driven by inflation, but also by the greater predisposition of travelers to allocate savings to leisure and recreation. At constant prices, daily spending increased by 35.4%.
“A new historical record is set since it was established in 2016, and doubles the figures of 2019. The increase in movement against the same weekend of 2019 exceeds 100% and confirms the solid growth of domestic tourism, which had already shown numbers much higher than the pre-pandemic throughout the summer season, during the extra-long Carnival weekend and in the last Holy Week”, reported from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Nation.

The average stay for this XL weekend was 3.3 days, similar to Easter, and per capita daily spending jumped to $6,524. Thus, the 2.3 million tourists spent $50,048.5 million over the weekend, including lodging, transportation, food and other expenses. Compared to 2019, this total expenditure, at constant prices, made by tourists rose 343.4%, which is explained by two reasons: the additional day called for many more people to travel; and because each year tourism gains share in the household consumption basket, with more people traveling and more money spent on achieving a good stay.
Tourists were added 2.1 million hikers who traveled to nearby towns for the day in search of leisure, recreation, sports, recitals, national celebrations and family gatherings. On this date, the meetings for Father’s Day had a great impact. Thus, excursionists paid an average of $2,400 each, adding a total expense of $5,021.3 million, which at constant prices was 21.3% higher than the same weekend in 2019.
